Will old CPU cause games crashing? Or old graphics card?

I have an Athlon 64 3500+ and Radeon X1950 (AGP) and Audigy 2 ZS

When I play games such as Fallout 3, The Witcher, and Mass Effect, my games crash after about 5 to 30 minutes of play. All of them crash back to the desktop and my computer does not lock up or anything - It just crashes back to windows.

My FPS though, is pretty good and I don’t seem to have problems playing the game (FPS seem to be about 30 to 40)

When I crash to windows, I am not necessarily doing anything intense - I may just be sitting there looking at some game menu or something.

Now I am wondering if my CPU is the problem, I have bought new RAM, new mobo, and new 750W PS recently, so I am pretty sure those aren’t the issue.

I was wondering if this crashing could be because of my graphics card or processor being too slow? Or could it be that one of them is overheating?

Or could it be more of a software issue? (Such as a faulty Windows OS) I don’t have problems with any normal things such as Word or using the internet or chat programs.

I have reinstalled both sound and graphics drivers. I have run Ad-aware and AVG.

I have no idea what is wrong.

I had this problem with my graphics card overheating before. Sometimes the game would crash back to the desktop after 5-10 minutes of playing, other they whole system would just hang. I checked and the fan was clogged up with dust and didn’t really work properly (even after cleaning it). I’d suggest a new graphics card…and don’t get passive cooling!
