There is a single player practice mode you just need to be logged in to play.

Yes, I understand what you are saying there, but I honestly think there are not that many situations now where you have enough computers together in one place to make it worthwhile playing on a LAN where there is completely no internet access just to auth (as opposed to the opposite problem where you have too many computers and too little bandwidth to play on an internet server) and I’m a 20+ LANs a year guy smile
Plus all the character names and config are in the profile hence the login.

Having said the above exposing the game to the LAN community is a brilliant way of raising the profile of games and encouraging people to purchase a key for online play but open LAN play now is quite easy to exploit for remote play these days too (although I have a few ideas to on that)

Yes, there totally is.
We are in a student residence where internet is provided, but behind a firewall and a proxy, letting through port 80 and friends only.
So no online games, but we can all play together in LAN.

Given that the game does not requires access to the Internet (as a MMO would, for instance), an offline mode is a must-have.

OK you are talking to a LAN gaming group admin, I am usually LANing any weekend I am not working but in the grand scheme of things LAN play is only a small % of total play and in the grand scheme of things having to auth in isn’t really that much of a trauma.
(and don’t get me started Raging about some other games that don’t even HAVE a LAN mode)
I am not sure what port PS auths in on but perhaps they could move it to 80 or 443 at some point.
