I think i recalled reading something earlier about dedicated servers, and i have a few questions about these.

#1: Are these dedicated servers available to the public?
#2: Will these dedicated servers run on linux?
#3: Will the Demo be able to use these dedicated servers (making the assumption that the demo has multiplayer)

if the answer to #1 is yes, and u guys have not made ur mind up on #3, i suggest the answer be yes, dedicated servers for a demo are a powerful tool to get people interested in the product, a lack of dedicated servers annoys most people, and makes them doubt the quality of the final product, to see proof, see left 4 dead 1 & 2.

Also, on the topic of the demo:
What will the limitations be?

#1 - yes, the dedicated server software will be released at the same time as the game.
#2 and 3 I don’t know.

so… any word on the date that the plain sight demo will launch?

edit: if the limitations of the demo have not been decided yet, here are my 2 cents.

only deathmatch gamemode, no experience or upgrades, only 1-2 maps (the ones from the beta perhaps?)
as stated in the OP, dedicated servers for the demo should be released.
another limitation could be a smaller amount of max players (ex: 5-10?)

This would strike a good balance between showing off the product, and having it be limited enough that people have a reason to buy the full game.

note: What NOT to do: create a demo that is limited by time.

im afraid we wont have the demo ready for launch. it is something we plan on doing but we currently dont have an ETA. Currently our time is spent getting the full game ready and polished. Demo’s take a great deal of time to make and, more importantly, “get right” - we will do it, but after we finish crunching

oh yes, also, dedicated server will ship with game and its for windows only

in the beta there was nat punchthrough for listening servers. do the dedicated server feature nat punchthrough?, and is there lag compensation on the listening/dedicated servers?

I’m a game server provider for 5 locations in US and 2 in EU, would you be interested in some dedicated servers or us running the initial launch servers?

Plain Sight only works on Windows.

yes the dedicated servers are available to public as well. Even you can configure them and keep at your place. better hire servers from other renters.
