New Beatnik Games Forums are up… it’s taken us a while to get them running but thanks to Vanilla – (the new kid on the block in terms of forums), we have a streamlined forum running, which still needs some pretty-fying. Go take a look.

It’s been a while since we have talked about or mentioned Plain Sight, well we are pleased to announce… we are in pre-production on Plain Sight 2.. feels good to say that finally.

Samurai Beatdown – Free this week!

So, holidays are over, it’s absolutely freezing  (here in the UK at least), and we’ve all got the January blues. But fear not, as we have a late Christmas present for you (insert other religious/cultural celebration as appropriate). Samurai Beatdown is currently free on PlayStation Mobile.

Yes, that’s right, completely and utterly free, until next Tuesday. It’s part of PlayStation’s ‘six weeks, six free games’ promo – check out their blog for more info.

Need help on installing it on your device? Want to download the soundtrack (also free!)? Check out our Samurai Beatdown page for all the latest information.

And why not upload screenshots of your highscores to this PlayStation forum thread?

Let’s try this again, shall we?

I know we’ve said it before, but this time we’re serious: we’re going to start updating this blog regularly.

No, really, stop laughing. We realise that we’ve not been very good (OK, we’ve been pretty rubbish) at keeping everyone in the loop about what’s been going on and what we’re working on here at Beatnik, but we’re going to try to change all of that. So check back here regularly (or add us to your feed reader or whatever it is the cool kids use these days) for posts about us, games we’re working on, games we’re playing, and even what we ate for breakfast (OK, maybe not that one). This also seems like a good time to mention our twitter feed @BeatnikGames and also our facebook page. Come talk to us, we like hearing from you!

So, what have we been up to recently? Our PlayStation Mobile game Samurai Beatdown came out at the beginning of October – it’s a ‘rhythm-action slash-em-up’ for PlayStation Vita and assorted Android devices. If you missed the original posts you can find all the important information here, along with screenshots, trailers, soundtracks, and even wallpapers. Last week we did an interview with PS3 Attitude, and shared some of our impressions of PlayStation Mobile as a platform, and also details of some updates we’re currently working on.

In other news, we’ve been doing a lot of brainstorming for new games – some great ideas, some…. not so great. But that’s how the process works! We’re now prototyping a few, so I’ll leave you with a sneak preview of some super secret artwork from one of them.

Samurai Beatdown Gameplay Videos

Hi everyone! Just a quick update to let you know that we’ve uploaded in-game videos from some of the Samurai Beatdown levels. These were all played on ‘Master’ difficulty – anyone think they can do better?

We are now regularly updating the Samurai Beatdown facebook page and the Beatnik Games facebook page, and also tweeting – likes, retweets, follows, comments, and general interaction all welcome, we love hearing from you!

Samurai Beatdown – Out NOW!

UPDATE: Instructions on installing PlayStation Mobile can be found here

We’re all very excited in the office today – PlayStation Mobile is now live, and with it our launch title, the rhythm-action slash-’em-up Samurai Beatdown. It’s currently available for an introductory price of just £0.79 ($0.99), so no excuse not to try it out! There’s now a separate ‘PlayStation Mobile’ tab in the PlayStation Store (Android devices may need to update their PlayStation Store app to see this).

Samurai Beatdown Soundtrack

Obviously one of the most important aspects to any rhythm action game is the music, and we’ve been fortunate enough to have the very talented Michiel van den Bos create five tracks just for us. Michiel has previously worked on a wide variety of games including Unreal and Deus Ex.

So, as a taster for what you have to look forward to, we’ve made the complete Samurai Beatdown Soundtrack available. If you like what you hear, make sure to check out the game when it’s released on PlayStation Mobile tomorrow!

Samurai Beatdown – Out Tomorrow!

Just a quick post to say that it’s official, Samurai Beatdown will be being released with the launch of PlayStation Mobile on 3rd October – that’s tomorrow people! As you can imagine, we’re all very excited, and hope you are too. Stay tuned for more updates, and maybe even some sneak previews (*wink*).

FAQ – Playstation Mobile

We’re getting lots of questions about PlayStation Mobile – basically, you buy a game once, and it’s available on PlayStation Vita, and any other PlayStation Certified Devices you own (including HTC One Series phones, and Xperia phones/tablets).

Not sure whether it’ll work on your device? The current list can be found at http://playstation.com/psm/certified.html/?WT.mc_id=PDC_cont, but expect more to be added soon.
